Holidays. Each federal holiday is subtracted on the weekday it is observed: a holiday on a Saturday on the Friday before, one on a Sunday on the Monday after. The day off counts in the year in which it is observed, even when the holiday itself falls in the next year.
Extra closures. Federal agencies were also closed by executive order on Thursday, January 9 (National Day of Mourning for President Jimmy Carter), Wednesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and Friday, December 26 (Day after Christmas), so most federal employees worked 247 days in 2025. These one-time closures are not federal holidays and are not subtracted in the tables above.
